Mini-14 Muzzle Device and mags?

Hi Calguns!
Just bought myself a LE trade ins Ruger Mini 14 GB from a gun shop today.
I am gonna use it to replace my 870 as my HD gun. Since it was a GB model, the Flash hider was removed leaving the thread exposed to allow the rifle to be "featureless".
My question is, whether it is safe( to me and the rifle) to shoot the threads exposed? if not, what muzzle break/ thread protector would you recommend? as mentioned above, this would be a HD rifle so loud muzzle breaks may not be a wise choice.
Lastly where can I find 10/20 or 10/30 mags for the mini 14s? I am particularly interested in the factory ruger 30 rds mag or the Tapco mag.
since it doesnt require a bullet button I am thinking of strapping 2 10/20/30 mags together.

it's safe to shoot with the threads exposed, just make sure there aren't any obstructions in the bore. adding a muzzle device would make the rifle "evil" and you'd have to add a maglock.

oh and if you have standard cap mags that we all know you've owned since before Jan 1, 2000 you can use them in your rifle if it's featureless.

Not quite. You may add a muzzle brake, Compensator or thread protector. Just no flash Hider.

Yes, its a GB model with bayonet lug and flash hider ( removed by LGS)

Never seen a factory threaded one on a Mini.

Someone threaded yours but I seriously doubt their name was Ruger.

It is not your burden to prove. Just because you have them dosent mean you need to take those and shoot them at the range. Leave them home and get some 10rd for range time.

Thats weird... they were police trade ins... So the police department threaded their minis?

If you can find any 10/30 mag or 10/20 mag it will set you back alot since the Factory Ruger Magazines are expensive to begin with. If you want something for the range Tapco does make a 5/30, with their own proprietary 5 round limiter. I've had success using these magazines and they are available online for about $18. But trully the only currently available and reliable magazines are the Factory Ruger ones. If you can come across any PRI (precision mag) ones they work flawlessly too, too bad the company went under before 2000.

PMI mags for the Mini 14 were/are the best. Precision Manufacturing Inc.
Went out of business soon after the 1994 Ban went into effect.
