Featureless Grip Clarification

I need a clarification for a home made featurless grip that I am making. How far around the back of a standard angle pistol grip can the thumb go before it is considered a feature? I am stumped by what is written.

978.20 Definitions
(d) "pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon”
means a grip that allows for a pistol style grasp in which the web of the trigger
hand (between the thumb and index finger) can be placed below the top of the
exposed portion of the trigger while firing.

It is a theory based solution. It's legit but as far as I know, no one has been taken to court. Go to the top and, go to fires gallery and find the featureless thread.

IMO. You want about a 4" flare.

The web of your trigger hand must be kept ABOVE the TOP of the exposed trigger. So draw a line front to back, that is even with the top of the exposed trigger - like this:



If the web of your trigger hand can at any time be below that red line while you are gripping the gun to fire, then it is not featureless.

This is why featureless grips are legal - they keep your web above the trigger.




So using a standard pistol grip, it is impossible to be featureless unless you completely prevent the thumb from going around the grip, by using a block of some type.
