Why did Marlin give the camp carbine the axe? Does anybody know what was the last year of production? Does Marlin still have the tooling for the camp carbine, and could they ever start production again? There is really nothing like it on the market. I always thought Ruger missed the boat by not chambering the PC carbine in 45 ACP.

The reason for giving the Camp Carbine the axe?

Many believe it to be because of the popularity of the Ruger PC 9. The camp 9 was plagued with recoil buffer problems, an easy fix but still problematic. I think they were discontinued in 1999 or 2000."I would kill for a Nobel peace prize." Steven Wright"

There is nothing like it available. Ruger missed/still misses the boat on a lot of stuff.

I have both 9 and .45 Marlins, both are good shooters a blast to shoot, and accurate as well. With the 9, you can use all those Smith 59-series mags you got prior to 2000.

The pc9 is a pos compared to a Camp 9...maybe it's 'popularity' was due to better marketing by Ruger?? The buffer issue can be solved with a little Sorbothane (sp??).
