  • The reason for giving the Camp Carbine the axe?

Why did Marlin give the camp carbine the axe? Does anybody know what was the last year of production? Does Marlin still have the tooling for the camp carbine, and could they ever start production again? There is really nothing like it on the market. I always thought Ruger missed the boat by not chambering the PC carbine in 45 ACP.

Many believe it to be because of the popularity of the Ruger PC 9. The camp 9 was plagued with recoil buffer problems, an easy fix but still problematic. I think they were discontinued in 1999 or 2000.

My theory is maybe lack of sales due to availability of aw's in civilian (semi) versions. I'm thinking production ended in the late 80's-early 90's, though an email to Marlin could get you the exact year. No idea as to tooling, but no one else came out with a successor, so I'm thinking Marlin may still have the tooling.

There is nothing like it available. Ruger missed/still misses the boat on a lot of stuff.

The pc9 is a pos compared to a Camp 9...maybe it's 'popularity' was due to better marketing by Ruger?? The buffer issue can be solved with a little Sorbothane (sp??).

I have both 9 and .45 Marlins, both are good shooters a blast to shoot, and accurate as well. With the 9, you can use all those Smith 59-series mags you got prior to 2000.

Life's journey is not to arrive safely in a well preserved body, but rather to slide in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "holy schit...what a ride"!!

What's so much worse about the PC9? I've never shot a Camp Carbine, so I don't know how they compare.
