    OPAP owners! need your help

So im lookin at an opap in the marketplace. It has already been modified to accept an AR stock (which i like and would likely do anyway) it is also a good price for me. Has low round count as well which is nice.

I am curious what you guys have to say about your opaps, pros and cons, if you are satisfied with your decision to get one etc. Also if you have other AKs how does it compare? Do i really need to spend another 500 on an arsenal? The only thing i dont like about it is that some of the handguards i like out there do not work on it. I appreciate your time and responses.

If you're gonna tapco out an AK, don't buy an Arsenal. Get that opap

My opap has been a good gun, no problems whatsoever.

Pros : it's cheap ! And built solid
Cons : it's heavy compared to the arsenal
You don't have many furniture options if you decided to change something .
        It's not an arsenal

I have two yugos , I since sold them and now own a couple Russian siagas , some romy's , a couple Bulgarians and two Hungarians . Don't plan on buying any yugos ever again .altho they are nice rifles , well put together and nice blued finish

It's got a 1.5mm thick receiver compared to the standard 1mm thick receiver so that's what adds to the weight. I love my Yugo but if your plan is to modify it you might be better off with a traditional AKM design as there are way more parts built for that platform.

Lol there will be no tapco involved. The only thing id like to change is handguard, midwest industries has ine that fits the yugo. Not sure how much i like it i really like the krebs extended keymod one but its only for saigas and veprs and maybe other akms if i understsnd that right. I know the ak purists are cringing. But i wanna run a red dot without a side mount. Maybe ill take a hard look at arsenal. Anyone know of any shops in socal thay have them in stock around 1000$? I know most the models are more but i have seen a few sround 950ish from online retailers.

The arsenal's you are looking at for around $1,000 are banned by name. just letting you know before you get to set on one.

Its okay to slap on a quad rail on a ar15/m16, but god forbid you slap a single rail on an ak... "nyet! rifle is fine." Stupid saying. WHen shtf and everyone around me has a red dot or a scope.. I dont want to be the only one not having it.

Anyways, I have both original and "modernized" ak.

I guess I am missing out...

My OPAP is bone stock. Except for the excellent triangle stock from Manticore.

No red dot on my opap.

Opap is a great choice. I left mine alone with exception of swapping the slant brake. I thought I might change out the furniture at one point, but it grew on me. The Opap is a little heavier than a standard AKM, but having already owned a VEPR (also built on a 1.5mm RPK receiver) I don't find the weight to be much of an issue. It's a very well built AK without the high price tag.

while I appreciate simplicity, the reason I refuse to upgrade most of my AKs is purely for aesthetic reasons. I just love how they look from the factory. Now, for the guns that I might ever actually have to use in SHTF, I do try to make them more user friendly. Usually thats just a TWS rail/dust cover {which doesn't bring up 922(r)}. Eventually Ill get red dots for the 7.62x39s and scopes for the 308s but for now I am stuck with irons.

Yeah that makes sense. I think i am actually gonna pick up a dallas moore built romanian that has the tws cover and their peep sight on it already which is great as ill likely throw a lightweight reflex on it or maybe a simple 1-4x scope.

                            Thanks for your input everybody!
