How many rounds do you fire at the range?

I was thinking about the cost of AR's and I don't think it is too bad compared to other hobbies or sports I have. However, once you buy a bike or a surfboard you ride for free. Not so with shooting.

So my questions are, on average:
    1. How far do you drive to shoot?
    2. How many rounds do you fire per trip?
    3. What is your average cost per bullet?

I think by those three things I can figure out about how much a day of shooting costs people and I am curious to the differences. The guy that has 1000 acres in the desert and loads his own compared to the tourney guy who lives in SF or LA.

I have only been pistol target shooting, and I drive 20 miles, shoot 50 rounds and pay $.25 for a 9mm bullet.

It is about 15 minutes from my house to Poway Weapons and Gear indoor range.

If I am shooting a pistol, I will usually shoot 50 rounds. With my AR, I shoot 40 usually. I shoot very slowly and spend a lot of time on form and checking my groups.

I am shooting Federal XM193 55gr 5.56, $149.99 for 420. That's about 36c per round of 5.56. For my 9mm I shoot Blazer Brass, $12.99 for 50. So you are looking at around 26c per round.

If you want to shoot something almost for free, take up archery. My PSE Supra Max compound bow cost me $900, $200 for a Sure-Loc sight, $200 for a Carter Too Simple release, $100 for a lizard tongue rest and $90 for good arrows. Once you get past the up front cost, your only expenses are going to be replacing the occasional arrow and your string every couple years. Arrows are the ultimate reusable ammo. Archery is a blast, it's my first love.

I'm using those blazer brass too.

Archery is a good call. I used to. I was pretty good. I got a book recently on olympic style archery. I may get back into it. There is a hoyt bow that's pretty sweet.

15 min to On Target in Laguna Niguel or 30 min to Raahaugies in Corona.

At On Target it's usually between two to three hundred rounds.
At Raahaugies it's usually between fifteen hundred and two thousand rounds (belt feds are HUNGRY)

I typically shoot about 500-1000 rounds per range visit.

Indoor range, I can shoot almost 200-300 rds of 9mm. I hardly shoot rifle indoors. With that said, if I head to the desert for a weekend, 200rds 308, 500 rds 223, 1000 rds 22lr, 1000 rds 9mm.

The wife and I shoot about 300 rounds each. 9mm (.28/rd) for her and .45acp. (.34/rd) for me.

Range fee is $12.50 each for all day.

                Drive 30 miles round trip.

I once clerked for the NRA during a summer. One of the perks was free access to their range which was located in the building. I shot pretty much every day but only about 30 rounds at a time which was more than enough.

Takes about 5 min to get to my local members range and I shoot what ever I happen to feel like at the time. I am there pretty much every Saturday so I don't need to cram the rounds into a single visit.

Usually around 100 rounds per trip
                        10 min drive
                        $7 Range Fee
                        8 - 30 cents per round

A lot of social time at the range. Take my time shooting.

You drive 20 miles to shoot just 50 rounds of ammo?

I used to walk 200ft now I walk or drive 500yds to my range. Up to 500yds shooting.
                            No range fee. =)
Typically shoot about 200 of each caliber. Generally two firearms per outing. Unless it's 22.
I shoot at least once a month up to 3 times a month. Rainy months I don't because of mud.
Average price per round is 20 cents. I don't reload. And yes i shoot AR's and AK's at that price...because my AR'S are chambered for AK rounds =) and I shoot 9mm only in handguns, well technically 45-70 too.
Key to keep ammo costs down is to buy in bulk online and research for cheapest price including shipping
