    A2 to A3 conversion advice

I have an A2 UPPER with a 20" Stainless Wilson HBAR ( 1 in 8, I think) mounted with standard AR front sights and would like to go with a A3 flat top with picatinney rail. I don't like the scope mounted on top of the A2 Carry Handle. Due to failing eyesight in my right eye I'd like to put at least a 4 power or maybe a 3-9 variable scope on it. So my question is on the flat top UPPER what kind of a scope rings will I need, in reference to how tall they might have to be to be able to not be interfered with by the front sight? I already have a tip up rear sight to mount if I'm so inclined. Also the A2 Upper is marked with an F K any idea who made it?

Just so you know, the A3 has an F-marked sight base - the A2 does not.

You can get a taller sight post, Bushmaster makes one that is 0.040" taller.

You can use pretty much any one pice ar mount, they are all about the same height. You will probably see a little blur from the front sight on low magnification, but that's just the price to play.

You can check out the burris PEPR, ADM, BOBRO, Aero Precision, etc etc etc AR scope mounts.

If you want actual scope rings, the ones used with an AR are the "extra super duper high rings". But a 1pc mount is better.

I have a 4 power scope mounted on my m&p sport with a standard front sight. I just used some cheap rings from walmart. Looking at the rifle, it looks like the front sight would be in the way. Surprisingly you can't see the front sight at all in the scope. You'll be fine just getting a flat top and throwing a scope on there with whatever you have on hand.

For a 3-9x40, I have a Redfield on a LaRue LT-104. Holds zero and I can remove it to fit into my hard case. All in you are looking at about $400, give or take.

I'd still pop off the FSB for a flip (YHM) or picatinny low profile and have iron backups. But that's just a personal preference.
