I was wondering if it was still legal to buy a GI M1 Carbine receiver here in CA? I just don't see them anymore. Is there a difference between a complete rifle purchase and a stripped receiver? Thanks for the help!!

You can buy rifle receivers all day long. Pistol receivers is where it gets tricky.sigpicOriginally posted by Dr. ElkyIf your a man who wears white sunglasses, your probably a douche bagOriginally posted by CSACANNONEERI've been know to cross dress and go the other way at certain events. -
Only a difference if you're under the age of 21, and you also can't just buy a receiver and build a pistol out of it.Comment

I didn't think about the age thing. Now I feel old.sigpicOriginally posted by Dr. ElkyIf your a man who wears white sunglasses, your probably a douche bagOriginally posted by CSACANNONEERI've been know to cross dress and go the other way at certain events.Comment

The receiver IS the rifle by law, so if you can buy a complete rifle, you can buy a stripped lowerComment

^^^^This is correct. On the 4473 the receiver has to be listed as "other" thus making it illegal to transfer to a person under 21. We also can't transfer pistol grip shotguns to persons under 21 for the same reason. You, you, and you: Panic. The rest of you, come with me.
Incoming fire has the right of way.

Easiest to buy a USGI surplus carbine for around $800. Nice and featureless. My 6 digit Inland post-war rebuild with ME of "0". I got it for $750 because the finish was excellent and it had a new replacement Underwood barrel put on when it was rebuilt. One not as nice can be found for less, especially on Gunbroker.

Every time I check for M1 carbines (Gunbroker or elsewhere) prices usually start at $850 on up. Some look like they have seen major use.
Also recall seeing a few at the gun show and they wanted $900-1,000 for something that has seen better days...You can give peace a chance...
We'll cover you if it doesn't work out...Comment
