What's the hivemind say about the Archangel stock on a M1A?
Tags: None -
The hivemind generally agrees it's illegal unless you some material to the grip. -
Eh it's behind the action, not below it. I think it's fugly tho. Just get a cheek riser pad of some sort if you need it. Foam sleeping pads and duct tape seems to work for the military.Comment

I don't have an M1A but liked the Archangel stock and modified it for my Ruger 10/22.

Actually, some say it is legal and some say it isn't. Check this thread.
It is comfortable, but makes the rifle heavier. Mine has a medium weight barrel, so it it is several pounds heavier than a standard M1A.

And more importantly, count me as one who is not willing to sell my house to raise funds to defend my self in court to try to convince a jury of me peers that it's legal, to me it's perfectly clear when you read the law, it's a no go.
I agree it's up to interpretation, you have to decide if it's worth it to you.
That being said, I prefer a standard walnut M1A stock any ways, but it's not bad, I'm just not in to tactical M1A's, good luck.Last edited by brianm767; 10-25-2014, 5:19 PM.Comment

Everything i've read about it leans toward illegal-BUT- they do make a Cali-legal version with a spacer that fills in that 'vally'.
I've seen pics of it, but have never actually seen it for sale thru a vendor. I know it exists because I saw one for sale used on the M14 forum.
I've also seen several examples of folks using epoxy to fill that area.
I think its a kool looking stock & it gets good reviews. If you want one, I say get it.Freedom consists not in doing what we like, but in having the right to do what we ought.

Not so great.
The Troy Battle Rail would not properly seat on the stock.
I had to sand down a few places to get the trigger assembly to lock in.
The mag well made it almost impossible to get mags out.
I ended up tossing it and put the rifle back in the original SA synthetic stock.
If you have the $2k and don't mind waiting 1+ years, the J Allen Enterprises stock JAE 100-G3 - for which, arguably, the Archangel is patterned after - is awesome
I'll add that either one will ad a significant bulk to your rifle.
Here's how I went:

I took my son's rebarreled Polytech to the range today to test a repair I had done. Front swivel screw was was rubbing against the barrel. Rifle is a rebarreled Polytech, using a SAI medium weight barrel, with SEI Coast Guard muzzle brake, unbedded Archangel stock, and Bushnell Elite 10x Mil Dot scope.
It seems to really like the Nosler made Silver State Armory 175 gr CC ammo.
The Archangel stock is much more comfortable shooting from the bench than the standard stock.Comment
