Yes. The AW law specifically exempts rimfires.

(a) Notwithstanding Section 30510, “assault weapon” also means any of the following:

but its a drop in kit correct? meaing you could drop in your original bolt group as well..not sure if thats kosher...a dedicated .22 upper I'd say yes...not so sure about a drop in conversion kit...

The code is specific... in order to be an "assault weapon", the firearm in question must be a centerfire. With the conversion in place, your rifle cannot chamber or fire centerfire cartridges and therefore cannot be an assault weapon. Period. This has been pretty well gone over, dvs762.

The wisest course of action IMO is to replace your centerfire bolt group with the rimfire conversion, then disengage/remove your magazine lock. Reinstall/engage your magazine lock before removing the rimfire conversion when you're done with it.

Personally I would use a bullet button on a conversion...but I'm paranoid.
