Dang I love my California "Featureless" 7.62x36 Saiga

Went up into the National Forest and found a nice little clearing against a hill where I could set up a 25 yard range. I finally got a chance to dial in the sights at 25, so my other setting would be good. With the rear on the 200 setting, I have it dialed in POA/POI at 25 yards. Should be good to 250 yards now. Also sighted in my Tasco red Dot, though the battery died before just as I was finishing. The modified Tapco G2 really cleaned up and lightened the trigger pull, even with the factory linkage intact.

At 75 yards, shooting off hand, from a standing position, the red dot was dead nuts on, and I hit everything I aimed at. At 50 yards without the sight, I did almost as well as the red dot at75 yards.

It functioned flawlessly from Saiga factory 10 rounders, and 30s - both steel Com-Blocks and also Tapco smooth sides (that I used the bodies to "repair dented com-blocks The innards are Com-Block). The Tactical Tr-Delta comp worked great. In fact, between it, the recoil buffer, and the vented Chinese Type 56 gas tube, the rapid shooting was more controllable than the un-comped barrel without a buffer, and with standard Saiga gas tube. The combination really took the snap out of it. More of a "push," than anything.

Also, the Tapco Saiga Intrafuse handguard with the aluminum heatshield I made inside of it worked great. Several hundred rounds, and the handguard was only slightly warm. Using the Chinese gas tube with the polymer upper handguard on it kept me from getting finger sizzle that you get with the Saiga Gas tube.

This is definitely my "go to" property defense weapon now.

Bernie, you gotta move that trigger back to where it's supposed to be.

Check out my new kydex style... it's a whole new ballgame! This is just my first prototype, I haven't taken any pics of the ones I've done in the last few days but they are even cleaner and more sturdy! Like 3x the grip control of a normal wrap!!

I'll post pics later of some of my more recent prototypes. Just pure off-the-hooknicity!

Nice rifle. What kind of forearm is that?

                    Your kydex prototype looks good.

Would it be possible to mold the material with the finger grooves?

Yep that's what I've been doing in my last couple practice runs. I can send you a pic when I get home if you want.

Edit : molding the straps into the bottom of the grooves... there's still a window so the grip is no wider than without the wrap.

It is a Tapco Intrafuse Saiga specific handguard, that needs no retainer. I put an aluminum trough in it for a heat shield, and replaced the Saiga gas tube with a vented Chinese Type 65 gas tube with a polymer top handguard on it. The vented tube helps cut down on the AK's over-gas bolt slam. Some East German AKs have vented tubes, also. The last one i used was an East German.

How is the ak rear stock compared to the Monte Carlo factory stock? I've been thinking of switching.....is it as comfortable? How's the "cheek weld"

I switched back to the factory for now.. The K-Var Nato works OK, but I had 3 shoulder surgeries, and my arm cramps because of the different angle of the K-Var. The K-Var is handier than the factory.

So not as comfortable? I've searched around and also read people suggesting the NATO length if you make the change. But can't find a real review of it Compared to the Monte Carlo......

And what do you mean by handier?

                              Thanks
