Veprs are non listed and a 308 Vepr minus the stock (thumbhole) is completely legal in CA. Have the stock mailed seperately then fill up the thumbhole so it's now a regular stock and you should be okay to put it back on the rifle.

No, I wasn't kidding... Thats a LEGAL way to get all the parts you need without hassling with an FFL and transfers and all that. Especially if you're building on an 80% receiver and not a 100% OLL...

If you can find an FFL willing to do it then by all means go for it, but if theres some gun out there yu HAVE to have, thats a way to get the PARTS minus the RECEIVER legally...

Just an out of the box idea

I don't see why it would be necessary to take a hack saw to it, though. Why not just remove the stock (if the pistol grip is attatched) and send it seperately?

You would need to destroy the receiver (if you were to do it this way) because sending a receiver thru the mail without an FFL would be a felony.

Basically you'd be buying a parts kit and rebuilding the gun with your registered/DROS'd OLL receiver.

I might do the same thing to build a .223 SAIGA on an 80% receiver shell... I'm debating if I wanna go 223 since I have a lot of legal hicap 762x39 mags I couldn't use.

        Take it easy.

Well, I am planning on having it shipped to an FFL.

I just got in contact with a guy who said he'll do it. He is an FFL. Now I just need to find an FFL that would be willing to take it on my end.

I also need to find out how easy it is to take the pistol grip off of the VEPR

One screw in the grip, like an AK.

Some members here might be able to reccomend a receiving FFL if you give us an idea where you are located.

It's a buttstock and grip in one. If you decide to buy it, realize that if you were planning to go gripless and use detachable magazines, the pistol grip cannot come off without the buttstock. You would have to cut it off. To remove it, you have to unscrew the screw in the rear tang, and the screw inside and underneath the grip.

Once the buttstock/pistol grip is removed its legal to ship into CA, right? Just want to make sure.

Yes as long as it doesn't have a flash hider on it either. Not sure if they make one for the 308, but ask.

Good point, and I did ask. No flash hider, fortunately.
