Building a Beowulf AR, what's a good parts list?

Title states it up. I don't care for the "looks" of any of the complete uppers I've seen so I'm going off on my own

For the lower, I'm starting with a TM 80%.

I'm going to use a GL-Shock-CP - FAB Shock Absorbing Butt Stock. I saw it come highly recommended for taming the recoil.

Is there a recommended buffer or spring for Beowulf?

For the upper, I'm starting with a TM upper. I understand the ejection port needs to be enlarged.

For a muzzle brake, I've read that the Kings Armory KA-0450 is "THE" one to get.

For the hand guard, I'm going with a smooth Hogue Free Float Tube. I'm trying to stay away from the "tacticool" look.

From the above, I'm not sure where to go.

For a barrel, I've heard the AR Stoner works:

Is the above the correct barrel to get?

    What about a gas block/tube?

    ************************************************** *
Edit from here down for on-going parts list. I will not include reload or ammo in this list.

Here is an ongoing parts list:
$49 TM 80% lower ($45 for engrave, anodize extra and tools extra)
$29 TM upper (TM sale going on RIGHT now Sept 2014)
$44 Hogue Free Float Tube Knurled Aluminum (Midway #122407)
$21 AO Charging Handle (Midway #983634)
    $10 Del-Ton Gas Tub (Midway #535924)
$40 DPMS Bolt Carrier (Midway #990146)
$90 Mako Recoil Reducing Buttstock (Midway #886169.. I got at Amazon)
    $130 King Armory Muzzle Brake (KA-0450 www.kingarmory.com)

    Still needed:
Barrel - waiting for Midway to get instock, 16"
    Bolt Carrier parts
    Lower handle/parts
    Buffer Tube
Sights (looking at just plain red dot)
Gas block (seems stoner barrel has odd size .875")

Current work needed beyond regular AR15 assembly:
Machine lower (going to use 80% Arms universal jig)
Open up ejection port in upper (I've heard ~1/10 of an inch)
    Anodize

Hit up the Sonoma chat group thread in the OT. One of those guys built one. Farking beastie it was, too.

Thanks for the heads up... I'll take a scour.

What makes a gas block top notch? Honest question. So far in my AR adventures, I haven't had to select one.

The design and materials used, plus their reputation and customer service. If you've never used an adjustable gas block before, than it would be hard to appreciate the advanced design and usability of the SLR unit. If you are new, it would be wise to start off with top level gear, less headaches with proven design.

I built mine off a TM 80%. I opted for the complete upper from AA since there was no ETA for the Stoner barrels.

I used a Vltor (IMOD or EMOD I cant remember). Recoil is not bad at all but Im used to shooting Mosins and Mausers.
I used a standard buffer/spring. Nothing fancy here.
I used a mil spec trigger but tweaked springs and honed surfaces.
Mine has the tank brake (King knock-off). I WILL be getting the King brake.

Only issue I see with that barrel, if its even an issue, is my AA barrel is .936 at the gas block. The Stoner barrel says .875. Not sure of that would be an issue or not.

Thank you for all the feedback.

Is this the correct Stoner barrel:

Is there any negative feedback about the Stoner quality? Basically, if the Stoner barrel was available, would you have gone that route instead?

Ive heard the Stoner barrels are decent. I would have to price it out and see which way would be cheaper. Building uppers is easy so that's not an issue for me. Could you build a better upper, using the Stoner barrel, for around the same price I paid for my AA upper? Almost positive you could.

So yes. If I were to build another Beowulf and the Stoner barrel was available, I would use it.

Besides AA and stoner, who else makes barrels?

I have a spare lower just sitting in my closet that I'm going to build a Beowulf with one of these days. Keep us posted on your progress pls. Would be interested to hear what the cost break down is once you're done.
