Whats the difference between FA and SA bolt carrier groups?

Is there any advantage / disadvantage of running a FA BCG in a SA CA-legal AR?

It is legal to use an M16 bolt carrier in semiauto AR rifles.

Several reputable large AR mfgrs ship product that way.

M16 carriers are a bit heavier and some say they improve cycling.

So what are the material differences in a SA vs FA BCG? just heavier construction in the FA?

Are their any extra parts on a FA BCG? are they easy to tell apart?
