I see they are available on GB, has anyone seen one for sale in a CA gunstore? I have a Benelli MR1 and Volquartsen Evolution, each is CA legal dropping mags, but the SCR seems a bit more versatile and fun.

Same here, got a strange lust for featureless rifles that looks like normal rifles. And aren't neutered versions..."There is no instance of a country having benefitted from prolonged warfare. It is only one who is thoroughly acquainted with the evils of war that can thoroughly understand the profitable way of carrying it on."Comment

My first impressions of this rifle is good. The fit and finish is excellent. I spent the first few rounds zeroing the sight and from that point it shot great. I went through 100 rounds of my own reloads without any issues. The trigger pull is on the heavy side at first, but seemed to get lighter as I shot through the rest of the mags. Recoil is no more than a regular AR and the buffer system ARES uses seems to be doing its job. There were big flashes coming off the muzzle with every shot, but because the barrel is not threaded, there's no way to add a flash hider. Being a featureless rifle, I got to use some of my pre-ban mags with this. It has a flat top upper but no front sight, so make sure you pick up a sight or scope as iron sights are not going to happen here. I mounted an Aimpoint Comp C3 on a low ring which gave me a perfect cheek weld. I tried using a cantilever mount at first but found that it placed the sight too high up.
There are a few things that take some getting used to. First, the mag release is too far forward and made it awkward to change mags. (Don't expect to do any tactical reload drills with this rifle.) This is due to the configuration of the stock, a small price to pay for free-state luxuries I guess.
The lack of a BHO makes it a pain in the butt during a cease fire and I'm waiting for ARES to release the optional BHO. The bolt also does not lock back on the last shot. This happened with all of the mags I had with me today. I'll see if it will work with the factory magazine that came with the rifle tomorrow.
I'm going again tomorrow with my camera. Until then, here's a teaser, please excuse the messy background.

Have you tried mounting a different upper?Originally posted by cockedandglockedGetting called a DOJ shill has become a rite of passage around here. I've certainly been called that more than once - I've even seen Kes get called that. I haven't seen Red-O get called that yet, which is very suspicious to me, and means he's probably a DOJ shill.Comment
