A thread title of "legal?" is not very useful.

Title edited.ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page
Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!Comment

Sorry for my ignorance just trying to figure out these cali laws, so why not a pistol grip? Isn't a AR considered a pistol grip? The rifle is outfitted for a 5 round mag, and others now I can see if it's cause of the bullet button. Thanks again for your responsesComment

Because of the AW ban California passed in 2000 banning semi auto rifles with detachable magazines unless they were possessed before the ban and registered. I think this rifle was made after the ban so to be compliant and not considered an assault rifle it can either have a bullet button making the magazine not detachable or have no pistol grip and be a featureless rifle like a mini14 or M1a. Nobody makes a bullet button so featureless is the only choiceComment
