I bought a sage mod 0 chassis for my M1A, partially because it was a good price, but more because I am moving to a free state the beginning of next year.
The seller got rid of it because of the bullet button restriction, but i figured I could live with it for the moment.
Once I had the rifle, i had to get a couple items to get it configured legally (neutered mag release from Fulton Armory), and how I want to run this rifle (sadlak scope mount from USATAC).
Well, all went together reasonably easily.
The op rod guide block was no problem, just a bit of time setting up my press to change it out.
Sadlak scope mount - easy and receiver was in spec - so no problem here either.
The maglock on the other hand ...
The part was a ***** to install, mostly due to the extremely strong spring under the mag release.
Once the new part was on, it was virtually impossible to get the mag out, tool, or no tool.
So, after a bit of struggle I decided to ditch the mag lock, fix the buttstock so it isn't collapsible and fashion a grip wrap out of a bit of kydex.
The rifle already has a muzzle brake as an OEM component.
Fixing the buttstock was as easy as pulling the grip, installing a stop in the grip that disallows the buttstock catch mechanism from being useable and done.
The kydex took one beer for me while the oven/kydex got up to temp and about 5 minutes of actual working time in to size, cut, and fasten the kydex.
I think I will get some good enjoyment out of this rifle in this config as I now have a variable mid-powered scope, and a little mini rds for quicker target acquisition.
I do miss the wood buttstock and its light, easy handling and lo-power fixed 2.5x scope.
Which way do you all prefer?
Comments would be appreciated.
Well, this thread would be useless without pics,
So
