    VZ58 Conversion for California

I was curious if anyone has ever taken a standard VZ58 and converted it for use in California.

My family in another state has a VZ58 that I would like to bring to CA with me, but obviously I need 10 round magazines and some form of bullet button or alternative grip.

What is the easiest way to make it CA compliant?

    Thanks!

Maglock it on a ten round magazine, then feed it with stripper clips. Then build the rest as you may, I hear the Mako Group is importing some isreali toys to bolt onto them.
So I was driving home from the range and I noticed that the scent of warm steel, burnt gunpowder and lukewarm coffee combined and smelled oddly of... Peanut butter?! Man, the Hoppe's is going to my head.

So something like this for the maglock: http://shop.solartactical.com/SOLAR-...CK-ML-VZ58.htm

and a standard 10 round magazine:

Is a collapsible stock ok? It doesn't fold, just collapses.

If that is all it takes, than that is simple enough.

As long as the overall length with the stock collapsed/folded is 30" or greater, then it is good-to-go.

If it is shorter than 30", then you will need to fix the stock so it no longer collapses/folds or install a muzzle device to increase the overall length to 30" or greater

The VZ I bought, we had to pin the stock open. You won't meet Overall length requirements with a working folding stock.

Or, you can permanently pin an extended muzzle brake(I believe it's the same threading as the SKS) to bring it to proper length with the stock folded.

OAL does not need to be permanent. You can attach the bayonet and meet the requirements for OAL but you can never take off the bayonet.

Or put on a new flash hider/break, it does not need to be welded or pinned on. It only needs to be permanent when the barrel is less than 16"

If barrel is 16" , it does not need to be permanent!!

Mine has the adapter plate to go to an AR15 buffer tube + stock, but it does not fold, only collapses.

I'll have to measure it again before I take it anywhere.

It's not in writing, that's the point. There's no permanence requirement.

This thread needs some clarification on overall length measurement.

In terms of length, a rifle has to be subjected to both the federal test and the state test to confirm legality.

                            Federally:
A centerfire rifle must be able to extend to a minimum of 26" in overall length and this length is measured with a stock in it's longest/extended configuration and from the end of the stock to the end of the muzzle/barrel. A flash hider/brake/muzzle device would not be included in the measurement unless it is permanently affixed. Using these federal guidelines, the rifle can be shorter than 26" with the stock collapsed but must be able to extend to at least 26" on demand.
(Note - The minimum federal OAL requirement is not CA legal and just passing the fed. test does not mean a rifle is legal in CA)

                            CA State:
The semi auto centerfire rifle must be a minimum of 30" in overall length (rimfire rifles, shotguns, and non semi auto centerfire rifles must be 26" minimum) at all times and state law requires that it be measured with the stock in the collapsed/shortest configuration. However, it appears an unpinned/welded flash hider/muzzle brake can be included in the CA OAL measurement. Again, per state law, the rifle can never be shorter than 30" at any time regardless of stock configuration.
(Note - Just passing the CA state test does not guarantee a rifle is legal federally, though I think you would hard pressed to find a rifle that would fail the federal test if it passed the state test)

So to be 100% legal, a rifle must be able to pass both of these tests at all times.
