From what I hear, Vector AK's are nice. I bought a Vector black poly AK a few months back & it is definately not an AR as far as fit & finish are concerned. Looking at my AR & AK side by side is like comparing a Ferrari to a Yugo. There are LOTS of tooling marks all over the thing. It looks as though the guy who did the machine work on various pieces had never been behind a mill before. But, I hear that even so, they are alot nicer than Century AK's. There are some higher end AK's out there but I don't know much about them. I actually only bought it because I thought the collection was incomplete without an AK in it. Otherwise I'm not a big AK fan.

CMMG quality AK? North Korean made BMW?

The best you can get is gold plated like what Sadam had.

I heard Arsenal Inc has high quality AKs.

I got my AK from henderson defense when they had their "certified" WASR-10's. It's clean, 7.62X39, imported by century, and despite what has been said about them I think that the finish is good and the rifles functions like it should. It was 427 out the door but since it was coming from NV, it was another 79 for dros and dealer transfer fee's. plus the radlock/mag combo at adxtactical.com was another like... 40-45 buckaroos, so you're looking at about 540-550 for a decent run of the mill AK. Install the radlock yourself, super easy and saves money. onlything i suggest, if you buy a century, get a little file and deburr the area where they milled, it isn't finished, and i had some metal shavings in my gun. Good idea to always inspect what you buy.

In my mind buying an american made AK-47 is kinda silly, you'er buying the gun to own the prefered weapon of our enemy. Buy something foreign whatever you do.

            Lancaster would be about CMMG-like.

            Vectors have all but disappeared.

Arsenal would be like a Colt.

I like both my Saiga and my Lancaster. I would recommend either.

I personally wouldn't pay more than 450-500 for one. Unless you want a brand new one for some odd reason.

a decent quality ak is at least 550 and up. saiga's are about 350 and are excellent quality but to make them into a "real" ak requires some work.

Just get a Saiga and do a conversion on it. 350 + conversion costs.

My personal preference is a Bulgarian AK, you can still find them for a decent price and the quality is top notch.
