    AR-30 - Thoughts?

So, I've found one new and in stock in .338 LAPUA.

    It's $1570.00 plus shipping.

I'm not really in to hunting, but maybe some day I might be. Am I crazy for buying one of these? I mean I kind of just want it to have a big caliber rifle.

Oh yes, I will be reloading it for sure.

Any thoughts/feedback before I pull the trigger?

I wouldn't necessarily think that the 338 Lapua is a hunting round unless you count two legged game.

It makes a heck of a long range target round but if you only have access to 100 yard ranges it is kind of like putting an afterburner on a turtle.

That would still be pretty awesome.

It sound like you've already committed yourself to this gun, but have you considered .50 DTC?

The .338 Lapua is a long range round that would be over kill for most animals in in the United States. Not saying you couldn't hunt with it, but you are probably going to damage a lot of the meat. For hunting, I stick with the 30-06. It is tried and true and has served me well over the last two decades. I wouldn't mind having a 338, but I would use as a long range paper puncher.

The north american grazing liberal has been growing in size exponentially since fast food chains hit the midwest in force in the 60's. They are rumored to be added as game animals for sporting purposes by federal agencies soon, as they are becoming a great threat to the delicate ecosystems of north america.

The first time you let the hammer down on it, make sure you are wearing MAJOR hearing protection, and a "man-goo" recepticle. Yes, it's THAT awesome. I know this, please believe!!!!

When they become legal to hunt, the .338 would be an excellent round for bagging them. I really hope that there won't be a bag limit!

You may need a semi truck to haul some of the bigger ones that you'd get on the bible belt.
