You meant to say a 5.56 bullet will fit into a .300 BLK chamber? Yes, I agree

.300 BLK intrigues me. I am actually considering adding an AR Pistol in .300 BLK
To my dance card before the end of the year. Plus having am AR pistol lower opens up plenty of future caliber changes in the future...

Here's Hickok45 and his sons AR 300 BLK pistol.

May the Bridges I burn light the way.

Fewer people are killed with all rifles each year (323 in 2011) than with shotguns (356), hammers and clubs (496), and hands and feet (728).

Kicked around getting one but with no can it's just another caliber that is more expensive/hassle to load compared to the 5.56

Yes, that's what I meant. I had it right in my head...just came out backwards. Happens more and more the older I get!

I like the Travis Haley video on the 300Blk. People probably have side bets on when this video will make an appearance.

I'm tempted to go there on my next AR, but I already have 2 CQB type ARs that I really enjoy and am unwilling to part with. Before watching this video I was thinking about doing an SPR type build for the next one. So now I am kinda torn. We'll see.

I have two 16" rifles, a 8.2" SBR and a 9.5" SBR in Blackouts using a YHM Phantom Ti suppressor. I use factory ammo both for hog hunting and at the range.

The only thing I use my 223's for anymore is coyote hunting.
You may not like guns, and choose not to own one. That is your right. You might not believe in God. That is your choice. However, if someone breaks into your home, the first two things you're going to do are, 1) Call someone with a gun, 2) Pray they get there in time.

Do you notice the 300 blackout is significantly more effective than .223 for hog hunting?

To look at? Sure if you want to spend the money on a new upper.
To fondle? Sure if you want to spend the money on a new upper.

To have just because it's different? Sure if you want to spend the money on a new upper.
To possibly (SHTF) hunt with? I'd stick with .223.
To possibly, someday, hunt with (i.e. "I need to tell the significant other that I got it for hunting but I have no real intention of hunting, it's just an excuse to buy a new upper.")? Sure if you want to spend the money on a new upper.
As a purpose built hunting rifle? I think you have far better options in non-ar rifles that will cost the same or less (if that's an issue) and provide you with a broader range of hunting opportunities.
To experiment with subsonic ballistics? Absolutely, though a bolt gun might be more appropriate.

Well, put it this way, if you end up not liking it, it's just a barrel swap to move that upper back to .223. It's a pretty painless experiment.

There's kind of a laundry list of nice things about the caliber. It's not clear to me if any of those reasons apply to you, but if you reload and want to play around with it, why not?

yep. i used lead from outside ranges, its soft, but nothing flies out of my barrel over 1000fps so no leading occurs, especially after powdercoating the bullets.

.300 Blackout is best taken advantage of with shorter barrels and suppressors -it was made for that. With that said, the non SBR/NFA user will probably benefit most from already being three things:

                              1) .223/5.56 AR guy
                              2) Already reloading
                              3) .308 guy (especially M1A, AR10, etc.)

Buy whatever you want to buy, but I think it makes the most sense if you meet those stipulations.
