Buffer, Buffer Spring & Buffer Pin...

    Few n00bish questions...

    Buffer / Buffer Spring

I have the Magpul M93B and I ordered the Carbine Buffer and Carbine Buffer spring from Magpul as well. The buffer and spring combo come out to be about 2" shorter than a standard A2 buffer spring and buffer combo. However that having been said the carbine buffer spring seems a bit stiffer once it's compressed into the buffer tube. Is this normal? I'd figure all other things being equal the buffer spring force should be the same for the either case, you just modify the free length of the spring and shorten up the buffer?

    Buffer Pin

Does the buffer actually go slamming into that buffer retaining pin every time you fire or does something else get in the way pressing that down or whatever when the upper is mated to the lower? I keep looking at that pinner little pin and can't imagine it'd take repeated blows from a fully compressed buffer spring & buffer all that well. Furthermore because of how Magpul have cut their buffer tube (recessed at the top a bit) the buffer cants forward coming out of the buffer tube a bit...will this make closing the upper onto the lower difficult?

    Regards,

I'll tell you what I know, it all works. However they shorten the spring or increase the strength don't ask me.

Yes the buffer hits the retaining pin every time it cycles. As I said in another thread, if the pins were getting destroyed, something would've changed. Just assemble it, make sure the buffer tube covers the pin and shoot it. Have some fun.
    Please, calm down.

Yeah the pin ain't going anywhere, the buffer tube comes right up and over it almost barely touching the side. Maybe the thing doesn't really crash into the pin all that hard. You've got the force required to strip off a new round and lock the bolt into the lugs and such. It just doesn't *look* robust at all so I figured maybe there's something I'm missing given that I don't have an upper in hand to check out.

Anyone else experience more damage/wear on their buffer from it striking the pin then you think it should? I'm having a problem with that myself and I'm wondering if it's just the LPK I bought or what.

When assembled, the bolt carrier should push back on the buffer just enough that it does not contact the retaining pin.

Thanks man, now I can put Eugene Stoner back up on his pedestal. Cause honestly, that pin doesn't look robust enough to do anything other than hold the buffer in place while the gun is pulled apart. A design that would use that to stop 4oz or whatever worth of buffer moving god only knows how fast is a dumb***.
