JD Machine Tech Rail install help Update post #9

So my buddy got "this really cool rail from JD Machine Tech" at the last show. He asked me to help install it but it came with no instructions, nothing on the website and there is nothing else out there on the install of the propriety barrel nut. I have managed to get it on and get everything to line up for the gas tube to fit properly but there seems to be no way to torque the nut on and have the gas tube stay in sinc. It is hand tight but the gas tube isn't the only thing keeping the rail onto the rifle as it stands.

That said, we pressed on with the install and found that the retaining set screws for the rail to the barrel nut are just a hair off. It's almost as if the rail was ceracoated instead of anodized and that thickness is making the difference.

This is my first dealings with JD Machine Tech products and was wondering if there is something I am missing or he just got one that is off.

    TIA

I remember there being an inside sleave that screwed inside of the barrel nut. You should have two items that look like a barrel nut.

Thanks for the fast reply Dan, we do have the two. The sleeve is what is off just a touch when we try to marry the two.

Doesn't sound right. I had Randall from AR Barrels, assemble my .308 version, and I did not pay close attention. Hopefully he might pop in and give you the advice that you are looking for.

                  Got this from my buddy

                  ratled

Spoke to JD. they are bending over backwards to make it right.
                  I have 2 options.
                  1. they will send a call tag and pick up the bad parts and send replacement with custom tool to align their parts.
                  2. they will send a call tag for the whole upper and replace the parts for me.

                      Last update (unless something changes)

                      ratled

Spoke with Customer service now that I have in hand the parts in question.
True to their word they promptly issued a call tag to have them picked up.
As I write this the parts are in route back to JD. Will update in a few days the results.
