I actually have and wasn't sure how good of barrels they make. I'm very curious to hear some personal experience from someone because they are affordable priced and wouldn't mind getting one to go with my MATEN.

I got one for my MATEN build and have not shot it yet as I just completed my build but there is a member here who has done a review I just cannot recall who it was.

        Here you go.

I'm building one but the bolt carrier seems kinda loose in the raceway, at least when compared to the high-end rifles at the store.

Is the Armalite bolt carrier bigger than a DPMS bolt carrier?
It fits fine in my upper. No noticeable slop. And the accuracy and reliability results are more than satisfactory. I've never had an single issue.

I saw in that thread RAD linked us to the guy who is reviewing the mega barrel says that they are "Reported as a finished Bergara/Shilen blanks". Anyone know if there's any truth to this?

Well I contacted Mega via email last night about their barrel blanks and got this in response this morning....."Our barrels are the finest in the market, and the manufacturers of the blanks is still under wraps." So I'm not sure where the guy reviewing the mega barrel in the link provided by RAD a few posts above got his info. Wouldn't a company want people to know where their blanks are coming from especially if they are proud to say their barrels are the finest in the market?

No, could cause a problem if company A (a new company) is selling there barrel for 309.99 and company B with a long standing good rep is selling the same barrel with a different finish for $475.00.

Just for reference my experience was with the 308 ultramatch not the 223 / 5.56. It does shoot tight groups but so do other manufacturers without the pressure problems I was having. Even the replacement barrel still shows ejector smear on the brass but the primers are not flattening as badly. I still need to run some factory ammo through it to see if I can now shoot factory ammo. (It didn't like factory ammo before, way too much pressure and would pop the primers right out of the case).

If I was to do it again I would have waited a year for a custom barrel, since it has been longer than that now anyways. My groups with the replacement or modified original barrel did not seem to be as good now either.

These were my 5 shot groups with the original barrel.

For some reason I always pull the 5th shot...

                  It's a heavy bastard too.

I highly recommend Mega Arms .308 barrels. I have heard from multiple customers who have replaced other match grade barrels with Mega barrels because they were very surprised at the improvement in performance when they swapped out barrels especially given the pricepoint.

Never tried one but they look good, I like nitride finished stainless steel barrels.

Do you what the origin of the barrel blank is, or does Mega make their own?

Nope, they won't tell me where they're made. I have my suspicious but it's pure speculation on my part.

I think it would be safe to speculate they just OEM from a good reputable manufacture of barrels and brand them as their own, similar to what Rainier does.

I really doubt they make it themselves, except maybe sending out the barrels for nitride.

All that really matters is price and performance, and if it shoot good, it shoot good.
