Need input on a build...

I have decided to build a bull barreled, bolt action in 30-06. Weight is no object and yes, I'm set on 30-06. I know it would be easier to simply drop $$$ and purchase an already built, tuned and tested bench gun, but where is the fun in that?

Any thoughts on a good platform to start with?

Go to gunbroker and buy just a bare remington 700 Long-Action receiver.

Best place to start, and inexpensive.

Is money also no object? Surgeon and Stiller are nice actions.

Remington is the way to go for the most aftermarket parts.

Because you're building a long action you're limited in your choice of actions. I would recommend a Stiller action. (Rem parts will bolt right on) Match it with a Krieger, Rock, Broughton or Lilja barrel, a Jewell trigger and your favorite stock and you'll have a start.

Anyone can buy top level components but the big issue is who you hire to build it.
