OMG! Hold onto your wallets. The new SIG SG551

    Very limited run.

Where did these SG 551's rifles come from?

These rifles were built out of new SIG 551s that were held in a bonded warehouse. The BATF witnessed all 250 receivers being cut, with the barrels being left at the warehouse.

They had to have the listed parts replaced, including the barrels because of 2 importation bans, 1 on rifles and 1 on barrels. The USA made parts were selected to keep prices down and quality up, but still not a cheap task.

All of the upper receivers had to be serial numbered to the lowers; due to the fact the lowers already had number on them from the original rifle. This was a tedious task that required some extra time and effort to match all the numbers.

The SIG magazine prices have not been decided; the website listing was a test and will change shortly.

We are working on accessories for these rifles. From diopter sights to 22 pellet conversion kits. It is time consuming but making progress.

All accessories we acquire, if any, will be offered to the purchasers of the rifles, in the order that they were purchased.

Sig then took the maximum number of swiss parts allowed and produced this limited run.

That's big money for a pretty cool rifle.

However, I'd wait for the 556 Classic which will have the same folding stock, fore-end, barrel, upper receiver AND diopter drum sights. The only difference will be the lower receiver that takes AR mags like a normal 556.

Whilst having a somewhat original "style" 551 would be cool, it offers nothing different except the original AK style magazine and release. I'd rather pay 1/3 the price and be able to use AR mags that are much cheaper, more effective and a heck of a lot more ergonomic.

Cool rifles, but SO not worth it unless you're filthy rich.

Another thing to consider, SIGs are available in Canada ( they aren't generally "restricted", unlike AR15s )

so if anyone decides to buy one of these things, Canada might be an avenue for parts and accessories ( Subject to import laws, of course. )

I agree. I've been hoping for the 556 Classic, as well. It's the 1st time I've considered a Sig rifle - and I'm glad to be feeling it now.

About 15 years ago ( when I was living in Canada ) I almost bought a real MG42. They were asking $400 IIRC.

Canada doesn't have the same "sporting purpose" import restrictions that the US has. As a result, lots of interesting guns are available, at fairly decent prices.

You can buy Norinco M14s for about $400, all day long.

The big thing I've been reading about lately is that Norinco has made an M4 replica, and a couple of containers full of them are onroute to Ontario...

Why do people need a frickin $10k Rolex? A $10 casio will get the job done just as well. Answer= Ego, vanity, the "it cost 4 times as much as yours, so it must be 4 times as good" philosophy. Rolex, Bentley, Sig SG551... sure they're high quality, but, something 1/4th the price will be more than sufficient.

In short... I'm with you on this one.

Totally agree. A $10K Rolex is just stupid, especially when you can get a decent one for 5-6K.
