Hmm that is fascinating. I had no idea about spiked ammo was a way to combat opposing forces.

The Brits did it in the Boer war and on the Northwest frontier (Afghanistan/present day Pakistan). Leave some rounds laying behind when the unit moves out, enemy comes along, scrounges the rounds, blows up a couple guns. No one else wants to pick up dropped rounds anymore.

You can really mess up dudes with spike rounds too. Enemy starts losing combatants because of mangled hands/eyes.

                OP, google: Operation Eldest Son

Clandestine psychological warfare carried out by MACV-SOG (special operations) teams during Vietnam, sabotaging enemy ammuntion when captured (double charges, etc) and leaving it, rather than destroying it... caused quite a $#!+storm.

Blown up AK's found in dead enemy soldiers hands found after engagements occasionally.

                Interesting read.

I know we did this in Vietnam.

Great way to screw up the enemy's ammo supply- I'd imagine they'd have to pull down and reload every captured or found round to be sure it wouldn't explode.
