Is using an A2 fsb with a free float hand guard do-able?

I posted this over at AR15 and I'll post it here too. I've got a DPMS carbine gas rifle that currently wears a Magpul MOE hand guard behind an A2 fsb. No issues with it but I've got a unused free float carbine length hand guard and nut that's laying around doing nothing. I'm entertaining the thought of using the free float WITH the A2 fsb. Has anyone done this before? Does anyone have photos of this setup they can share? I'm thinking of doing this so my rifle is just a little bit different from all the other rifles at the range.
A good rifle build isn't cheap, but a bad one can be expensive!

It is doable, people do it all the time. You have a carbine length ff handguard, just gotta install it .

    Sorry, no pictures here.

If you have a two piece rail it's not an issue, or if you feel like popping the pins, removing the FSB, installing the rail, then putting back on the FSB it would be doable also.

It is pinned and I have no issues with that, it is also one piece too. Most of what I wanted to know was, will it fit behind the A2 fsb gas block without any modifications and I'm guessing I'll have to remove the existing hand guard ring/clip from the A2 fsb since it would no longer serve any purpose?

Steve, it should work fine. I have the same situation with 3 possible hand guards on this Piston Rat Rifle I am building for one of my kids..

Depending on clearance issues the preferred choice is the round tube. Regardless, removing the A2 FSB is gonna happen.

Worse case is you cut the tube back a bit, but I doubt you will have problems.

Great picture Bob! The coincidental thing is I plan on building a 7.62x39 in the future and I had planned on Cerakoting the upper/lower and free float HG a classic red color too. As Bender from Futurama would say; "Good Choice!"
When you can, please post a photo of the completed build.

              Thanks Steve!

My daughter likes RED...what can I say.? I just picked up these parts from the Cerokote guy. Great job.

I am building it in my room, she doesn't know it's here....haha...waiting for a few other parts. It will be Featureless as well. Dad can run his magazines that way.

I had a rifle length version of what you will end up with. Make the switch you will like it.
