Silicone cloth if it's a shooter. If it's something that sits in my safe for extended periods I use a preservative oil.

I developed a habit of wiping a very thing layer of hoppes oil on the slide of my Glocks when I'm done cleaning and lubing them. Seems to even out the appearance of the finish if there are any fingerprints or smudges on it.

I have done the same thing with my AR one time and it certainly makes it look nice, but I wouldn't say that it's 100% necessary unless you're storing it for a long period of time, at which point a preservative compound would be more appropriate.

Aervoe / Krylon matte paint for the most part, everything else not painted FireClean inside and out.

                ^This!^

Plus, a few drops of oil on the bolt carrier and rack the charging handle a few times wouldn't hurt as well.

It will rust. There's sodium in tears.

Whatever the hell you do, don't put a Twinkie next to your AR-15.

The only thing I hit my guns with exterior wise is Eezox if I start to see rust issues. Toxic as hell but nothing and I repeat nothing in today's market will block rust like Eezox.

Usually my 870 and 700 get constant coatings due to rust. But all my guns get a light coat WHEN I clean them.

I only clean my guns once a blue moon now. I shoot and have too many guns to clean every range trip now. 15 guns and about 2k rounds a month on average gets a tad tedious to clean every trip when you take out 5 to 8 guns each time.
