    A Good Hunting Rifle

    Hey whatsup guys,
A friend of mine is interested in getting a bolt action rifle for target shooting, and or hunting for a relatively decent price. I tried giving him some advice but I have to say I only really have knowledge of C&R weapons. What would be a good rifle and scope combo for deer hunting and or target shooting,
    Curt

Savage makes good rifles for the money if he's looking for a good value.

I use a Winchester Mod 70 in 30-06 topped with a Simmons 3-10 power scope. It has served me well over the last 15 years.

Remington SPS Varmint in .308 with a Nikon 4.5-14 Buckmaster Mil-Dot scope, since he wants to hunt.

That rifle will be a bit heavy barreled for hunting carry, but will be a better target shooter (though the stock could use an upgrade).

Do you think he's going to do more hunting or target shooting?

If he's exclusively hunting, just about anything will do - he's only going to be taking a couple hundred shots a year.

There was a Savage 30-06 at Big5 for less than $400 the other day. Came with a Simmons scope too. If there's a Big5 near you, check it out.

remington 700 in 270 7mag or 30/06 also check out the t/3 tikkas.

I dunno, I've never been much for guns. I mean, sure, we have the usual gun by the door, another near the TV, one in the kitchen, and another in the bedroom...and several others laying around. For the most part though, we keep our home free of guns. We are peace loving folks.

Keep the gun use the scope to drive in nails or as a door stop.

+1 on the Tikka T3 lite. I have one in 308 and its great, shoots flawlessly, tight groups and guaranteed 1moa out of the box from the factory. Price was really reasonable too.

                        I've got a Ruger M77 chambered to .308...

It's nice because you can shoot surplus NATO for plinking and get some good commercial loads for hunting...
