carbine length vs mid length gas system, addax order

i have heard that carbine length system will not work as a mid length gas system on a 16" upper why?
Would this apply to a gas piston system as well?
Im going to order for addex, but trying to decide the carbine piston, or mid length

I own 3 PWS Gas piston systems (Same system used on ADDAX GPU)...All of them are carbine system...less weight due to less rod being used and pushed by the piston...All of them have zero malfunctions and shoot great!!!

take it for what its worth

I don't understand this question. The carbine and mid-length gas differ by distance down the barrel. See link below. You can't make the gas mid-length if the gas port of a barrel is drilled for carbine. Mid length offers more real-estate, since you can't do lo-profile with a PWS, (but you can use the FSP DD rails to gain some back)

I'd pick mid-length if just for the extra handguard real estate alone (can hold further out).
