I found a used M1A Springfield Match grade w/walnut stock, stainless .308 barrel, in excellent condition. What's a good price for these? TIA

Is it a true National Match? How old is it and does it have USGI parts? Makes a big difference in price. If it's a true National Match, it should have a bedded stock, hooded rear sight, trigger work, unitized gas system, national match spring guide and medium weight barrel. If it does not have all of these, it's not a true National Match as sold by Springfield Armory, Inc.Comment

There are about a zillion different ones you could be talking about.
Loaded model - non bedded, has NM barrel = 1300 bucks
National Match - like loaded but receiver is epoxy bedded to stock gas system unitized = 1500
Supermatch - lugged receiver, kreiger barrel = 1800
Supermatch in Mcmillan = 2200
That is what I've seen them selling for online, asking price is usually 10-15% higher. Here on Calguns sometimes it's 30% higher for whatever reason.
Here are some on m14forum:
Here's an older double lugged one for 2200:

I didn't note the serial #. I think it had a hooded rear sight. I didn't note who made the barrel. They were asking $1800 with manual and extra mags.Comment

Excellent summary, agree completely. OP, you need to be much more specific on the model and parts content. There are about a zillion different ones you could be talking about.

Depending on the year made but if it's got some years on it I'd pay no more than 1100-1200Comment

Yeah like I said it all depends on how old it is and the model. It can be just an old model without the usgi parts.Comment

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. These rifles are really a sum of their parts and the 'whole package' is what determines value. Many, many rifles out there with USGI parts on them but not many that have USGI parts and were assembled and accurized by a big-name smith.Comment

I was just referring to a SAI off the shelf rifle. I was assuming that the rifle that the OP is looking at is a Springfield Armory, Inc rifle. All things being equal, round count, headspace, throat erosion, muzzle wear, overall condition, the one with the USGI parts should be a higher value. Back in the day when surplus USGI parts were readily available some Springfield Armory, Inc rifles came from the factory with USGI parts.Last edited by slopoke; 05-01-2014, 11:14 AM.Comment
