There isn't. Not everyone's "All around" is the same. It's like asking "what are the best all around shoes if you could only wear one pair?" It makes a big difference if you're an olympic runner, a professional mountaineer..... etc.

Considering the hunting and bear aspect, I will say something in .308. I would then say the Siaga in .308 since we're in CA.

The state thing is a good point. In CA, M1-A is the only (fully legal, removeable mag) game in town. My second choice would be an AR-10 with MMG.

Any Saiga .30 cal. The 308 packs more punch at extended ranges, but the 39 Russian has (for me) very little felt recoil.
