is it legal to shorten barrel on my H&K MP5 A5

    I am going to get the H&K MP5 A5

    My question is
is it legal for me the cut barrel from the compressor section to make it shorter and look like the real MP5
    (http://www.hk-usa.com/military_produ..._general.asp)?

I don't believe this would damage the functionality of my MP5 A5
since the real MP5 works with at that size, is not it?

    Thanks

No, the minimum barrel length on a rifle with a stock is still 16".

Will there be 16" of barrel left after you chop off close to half of the barrel?

      Likely not.

Do not pass go, do not collect $200, go directly to Jail.

Move to a state that allows SBR's, file Form 1 with ATF, get CLEO sign off, pay $200 fee and wait about 10 months.

That. But even that isn't really worth it unless you are obsessed with the cosmetic aspect of it and/or are doing it to make the overall length manageable with a suppressor. I did the SBR thing (with the suppressor as well) without adequately thinking it through - it's the worst $200 I've ever spent

Doing so may not damage the function of the rifle.

The barrel with the fake suppressor is 16.1". Cutting it will make it a SBR.

Everyone else is on point about the barrel and the Federal issue.

My post is a side topic, you say that it shouldn't mess with function because the real MP5 works with that barrel length...

You know that the Walther/Umarex is a 22LR look alike right? (I wouldn't even use the word clone)
It has none of the same internal workings as a real centerfire MP5.

The 22LR being a straight blowback system.
The real deal being a roller-delayed blowback.

BTW the way the fake can screws on is actually part of the way the whole gun is pressure fit together. In other words taking the fake can off the MP5 look alike is actually a step in disassembly... Same thing with their M4 look alike you have to remove the muzzle device...

When you slide the action out it brings with it the attached real barrel leaving a fake shroud on the fake outer shell..

So not only does it have a fake can covering the barrel but a barrel shroud too..

Even if it was legal it would be a mess chopping one of these because of how its designed..

No offense but it sounds like you have a lot to learn before you get yourself in trouble..

                        3. A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has an overall length of less than 30 inches.

is considered as a so called AW(WTF does an AW has to do with a semi, F I know). So, don't cut the barrel to make it shorter. As long as you are are in Commiefornia, you r f*cked, for now.

The firearm in question is not a centerfire..
So that section of CA PC does not apply.

Federal Barrel lengths and Over All Length (OAL) are the issues. It would become a SBR if he chopped the barrel.

Oh, sorry that I missed that the OP is referring to the 22LR.
