I wanted a AK. got me a pro built AKM. liked it so much i bought another. Just something about a AK. All the [ many ] advantages to a AR platform mean nothing to me. ARMY VN vet 68-69

Back in the 90's when AR's were ~$700 and AK's were ~$200. There was real legitimacy to the "which is better? AR or AK?" argument. You can STILL debate the 5.56x45 vs 7.62x39, but with AR's cheaper than Ak's, ugh...I'm just amazed people are still buying AK's. I totally get why people BUILD them, but I can't wrap my brain around buying one for $1k.
That’s like trying to make the argument that Glocks are better than XXXX. Most of us have their opinions but still own other firearms just due to the why not/ fun factor. I can’t say that my gun purchases have made a lot of economic sense. + I am guessing most guys that are buying AKs now already have an AR.

I think you need to also consider that ARs are really cheap right now. I could build a nice AR today for less than I paid for my Bushmaster back in the late 90s.

All that said, I have never paid more than $500 for an AK style gun (maybe with fees but not before)

Same here, I only have one ( 10.5" SBR) but anytime I go to the range I find myself only taking my AK's with me

I stand in awe good sir. I dont know the first thing about putting together an AK. I am barely able to field strip my 1911's

The days of the $350 Saiga's are gone...i was too busy building an AR at the time to pick one up, now I'm slapping myself silly for it.
AK's are still selling for more than they were from just a few years ago.
Back in 2008-2009, you could get a Arsenal SGL31 for $799 or a WASR for $350-399. Now those same SGL's are in the $1200 range and WASR's are selling for $700+.
