Carbine training classes

Just wondering if you guys have attended any 1 to 3 day carbine/pistol training classes recently that you thought were really good? would prefer to see what might be available in state but if you went to a good traiing class out of state please post that as well. Maybe include price estimate for the class, amount of ammo needed, type of training emphasized, any night shooting, etc.... Thanks for the info

I went through this discussion in January with some friends. We were deciding between taking a class from Chris Costa or Frank Proctor.

If you break it down logically, what you need to do is decide if you are looking at defensive or competitive use (there is some overlap) than you have to determine your current skill set. You'll get more out of an advanced class, if you aren't worried about the basics or operating your gun correctly.

Thinking it money well spent to acquire good fundamental skills first, plus money is tight, 7 friends and I are going to attend Rudy Waldinger's 3 day Close Quarter Defensive Rifle class in June.

It is in Coarsegold (between Fresno and Yosemite), runs about $130/day and takes about 1k rounds. I've been to a class with Rudy before and he is an outstanding teacher...he has a background in both competitive and defensive use of firearms

Looking at his website and the info for the rifle classes, does he incorporate transition to pistol also during the class such as with malfunction drills or is strictly rifle related training? I mean do you just need 1000 rounds of 5.56 ammo or do you also need a few hundred pistol ammo as well?

Good info! Thank you! I would love to take a carbine class also. Though I would prefer to learn how to operate my AR effectively with a BB as my go to HD AR is not featureless.

No problem answering here. I don't know that we've discussed it.

I've had my AR since the mid-80s and my magazines started life in the Vietnam era...and have been rebuilt more than once...so I can't say the issue has ever crossed my mind

The class we're taking just covers running the carbine. He has other courses for the handgun (semiauto & revolver), shotgun and combined arms. Rudy is a World Class revolver shooter.

If I can get enough folks together, I'd like him to put on his Tomahawk class
