    AR Upper

    Need an AR-15 upper, I have a budget of $2k.

    No idea if gas or piston is better so I'll need some input on that.

    Also, I shot a yankeehill and I was hitting 6" steel plates from 200 yards away without a problem so I'm looking into similar uppers.

    I am going for light weight and as short as legally possible.

    Thanks

    Contact Wilde Built Tactical in La Mesa They will fix you up, with enough left over that you can give me a budget upper in exchange for this awesome suggestion.

          That's a pretty high price range & very vague description of what you want, so basically 95% of the uppers out there will meet your needs.

          There's a sticky on the top of the forum, it's a good primer into the AR platform. Twist rates, barrel types, DI vs had piston, etc

            I say;

            $1000 rifle
            $500 optics
            $500 ammo

                If you want something lightweight, you'll have to look for an AR with lightweight barrel. Personally, I prefer a Direct Gas Impingement if I want the lightest setup.

                An idea for something light, you can get the BCM KMR upper like this one plus paying extra to have the muzzle device pinned and welded:
                BCM® 14.5" mid length upper group. This upper comes with an enhanced light weight barrel (standard), a 13in KeyMod handguard, and choice of muzzle device.

                Then, spend for a quality BCG, iron sights and/or optics.
                They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

                      Lightweight I'd go DI, pencil barrel, and no heavy quad rails, etc. 14.5" with permanent muzzle device will be your shortest. I'm in the middle of building an upper using a mag tech receiver (made from lighter magnesium) and del-ton pencil barrel, but I can't vouch for the parts yet because I won't have it assembled until next week.
