I gave up waiting. Glad I did. The black rain modular is solid and looks schweet!

          Items in this photo:

How exactly does the MI swivel studs prevent forward mounting? Still easily done; you just mount it behind the swivel stud. See how easy that was?

It places your toys back say 1" or so from where it would be without the stud.

I have that rail and like it a lot. I also rarely mount anything that far forward. Why would you want a light on a .308 AR? It is a terrible choice for home defense, so unless you shoot at a range at night it's little more than a tacticool accessory.

Bipods should be placed where they provide balance as a pivot point. It's very rare that this is all the way forward. One of my .308 AR'S wears an 18" barrel and, for me, the best place for the bipod is about 2-3" way back on the rail from the front.

Like this: (Note lack of any tacticool bolt on thingies)

Could it be that MI knew what they were doing?...

The CMMG keymod is pretty nice. I ended up going with the CMMG upper receiver as well to match the taller height of their rail. Pretty sure the Aero Precision 308 uppers are the taller height as well. I typically run my bipods all the way forward to extend the fulcrum out as far as possible. This makes movement at the butt of the rifle result in less angular movement of the rifle for a bit more stability. If I was going to engage multiple targets spread out over some distance, I'd bring it back towards the center a bit.

I'm running the Wojtek Machine keymod rail sections with built in QD swivels up front, the allow the mounting of tacticool doo-dads while retaining the ability to attach a sling. Bipod mounting is via a simple IWC keymod bipod stud that allows direct attachment of a Harris or similar style bipod.

Yeah, I sectioned about 2" off of the front the rail to provide clearance for mounting a reflex style suppressor later on. Moving out of CA pretty soon and a can is on my short list of accessories to get.

I picked up a 12.5" low pro from PA when they had 30% off last month... great price and pretty light for a 308... fits the bill for my attempt at lightweight build (wish I could find a barrel and upper receiver for the project though)...

                            I think you have a good choice planned - it's a nice hand-guard.
