    I have had both, i would put the Leupold glass a bit better than the Nikon
    and the Nikon turrets were a bit sloppy compared to the Leupold. Both optics did the job equally well and the BDC works, used both of them on AR's and .223 bolt actions.

      I think Nikon's P-223 3-9 BDC 600 scope will fit your needs and be easy for your kids to use as well. My 14 year old and I have put 1000's of rounds under my P-223 3-9 and 3X Carbine scope. Just so you don't miss out, the P-223 is currently on Promotion for another 6 days ( 3/31/14), buy the scope and get a P-Series 2 piece AR mount when you buy from a participating dealer.
