Another ruined lower thread?
Not really. Although, I certainly regretted taking on the project during the first hour. Not to mention while finishing up, I realized I didn't take "before" photos.
What project am I talking about you ask? A magwell bevel job on an AR lower. From the start to cleaning off the remnants of a perfectly good lower, a good 2.5 hours went by with smoke breaks and playing with the dogs included. Though, I was committed I couldn't help thinking to myself, "why am I doing this?" Of course, it wasn't like I could've backed out after the first stroke of the file. Regrets aside, I must say it came out not too badly. Next is finding a good cerakote applicator nearest to me. What do you guys think?
Note: This is an Aero Precision forged lower. Front section of the magwell was not beveled at all and the rest had minimal beveling at best. So, I did have a reason...if you want to call it that. I included a JD Machine forged lower photo of it's beveling to compare.
Caution: I don't recommend anyone try something like this (I don't see why you would anyway) unless you feel confident with a file and dremel and like me, you just can't leave well enough alone. I do have a background working with precious metals, so...
Edit: I mentioned in another thread that I was going to cerakote the lower in FDE whether or not I went through with this.
