    DPMS G2

    Hello Fellow Calgunners,

I'm sure most of you have seen or heard about DPMS' new AR 308 variant, the G2 family of rifles. If not, check it out here: http://dpms-gii.com/full.html

I just decided about two months ago that I wanted to buy or build an AR 308 long range rifle and I have been doing a lot of research. As I'm sure some of you know, since there are no standards for AR's in 308, it's very difficult to shop online for a good quality rifle. The rifles are either really expensive or plagued by bad reviews. I don't want to drop $3500 on a rifle and I really hate to waste $2000 on a piece of defective junk.

Then I heard about the new DPMS G2 rifles. They have, theoretically, solved most of the gripes of the AR 308 gripes. I won't go into detail, it's all on the DPMS page. Basically I'm ready to take the plunge. I have blind faith and I want to walk the line.

However, I called DPMs and they said that their rifle is not CA compliant because it is a Panther rifle! Noooooo! This broke my heart. But, they did say that they plan to make a CA compliant version; timeframe unknown.

I just wanted to share my knowledge and hear from some of you regarding this issue. I have heard that there is a possibility that just having the Panther Logo on the rifle is not the definition of the banned rifle, rather "Panther" has to be in the name, as it is in a few DPMS rifles. The G2's have a panther on the side but they are not technically called a Panther. The rifle I want is called a GII SASS model RFLR-G2SASS, as opposed to the DPMS Panther Carbine 16 model RFA2-PCAR-16.

    What do you all think?

As with anything that is a "new design" I will wait to see some reviews before I consider dropping $$$ on one. Also, until someone produces an 80% for the new pattern, I am out as I refuse to register a semiauto Black rifle in this communist state we reside in. It looks very nice though.

      Rifle

Seen the adds ,Looks like a good rifle. But it looks like a upgraded .308 AR format still.I will wait until it hits the market then decide. What are you going to do with this rifle versus any other .308 AR.I mean it's still a DI and buffer tube gun.If they changed the charging handle like the LWRC REPR then yes ,or made it gas piston,or Evan getting rid of the buffer tube ,for a folder then yes .You might as well get a SCAR 17 then.

It is not a panther rifle. Model is LR-G2 stamped on the gun. We have them in stock CA compliant.

Woo hooo! Interesting to see these catch on.
