    Talk to me about slings

I'm thinking about slinging up a couple of my rifles and I have some questions if you guys don't mind answering them. I haven't seen this covered very often so I'm hoping these questions may help other people as well.

    Do you use a sling?

What kind of rifle is it, and what's its purpose?

    2 point or 1 point?

    Where do you mount it?

    Do you use QD mounts?

If there is anything else you would like to add feel free. Thanks.

I run an Ares Armor Huskey sling on my general purpose AR. I use a MI FSB rail and Vltor Emod to mount the QDs at 9 o clock and 3 o clock respectively.

IMO best tactical 2 point sling on the market, sturdy and quickest/easiest adjustments. At the gun shows people always ask me about my setup.

I like the padded VCAS, what works best for me is a snap hook, a QD swivel and a tri-glide.

I keep the snap hook attached to my receiver end plate, and can move the QD swivel from the tri-glide to the handguard.

The tri-glide allows you to use the sling as a single point or a 2-point.

Standard GI cottom 1 1/4" loop sling. It's old school and it works.

          Do you use a sling?

          Yes I do, Magpul MS3.

What kind of rifle is it, and what's its purpose?
BCM Mid Length Dissipator. Sling is in use when the weapon is. Mainly for retention of the weapon when switching to pistol or when I need both hands to do something.

          2 point or 1 point?
          Both

          Where do you mount it?
ASAP Plate and FSP swing swivel

          Do you use QD mounts?
Sling points are QD. I don't like the traditional button but the sling attachment points on the MS3 are nice. Easy to use and can be locked in place with a single click of a button.

I almost always run a sling. Running a rifle without one just feels weird in my opinion now that I've gotten used to it. I chose the MS3 for its modularity between single and two point sling. In regards to the ASAP plate, it's not a necessity for most but I needed it because 80% of the time, my sling is in single point and is tightly bound against my chest making weak side transitions difficult without an ASAP plate.

Also, I like to have a shemagh so that the sling isn't constantly cutting into my neck/shoulder.

Yes I have a sling, also a padded VCAS.

I use the rifle for target, plinking and 3-gun

            Use as 2 point.

Attached via buckle to FSB swivel, and included buckle at buttstock.

I use the sling to assist stabilizing the rifle for long ranger shooting as well as weapon retention so I needed a sling I could adjust and snug up for a proper hold.

                Do you use a sling?
                Magpul MS3

What kind of rifle is it, and what's its purpose?
It's a 16" build that is my primary HD rifle and for use in training courses

                2 point or 1 point?
1pt for ease of transitioning to pistol and using both hands

                Where do you mount it?
ASAP plate in front of the buttstock

                Do you use QD mounts?
                no

Yes, end the thread, because every single person should use the exact same sling setup.

Without a smiley I can't tell if M16 is serious or sarcastic... but his setup is pretty good.

I run a VCAS, with tri-glide (in case I want single point), with a snap shackle in the back, QD up front.

My preferred placement is 'close' two point: rear of the receiver and handguard just in front of the receiver.

But I went through a lot of slings, attachment points and adjustments to arrive at what I like.

You may not be able to avoid trial and error based on our replies, but maybe you will be able to reduce your costs and time spent.

Blue Force Gear Padded 2 point is the best for me. I use no other sling. I run one point on the top rail and the other on my buttstock. Easy to adjust and will not rash up your neck if you carry for extended hours.

best sling on the market, bar none.

i use the 2 point system.

i never really shoot without a sling anymore, i love tactical link because you never have to re-tighten, the incorporated bungee does it for you. the bungees are also so heavy duty that you have to be pretty damn strong to extend it from your body and adjust and since the bungees are super heavy duty, the rifle doesnt bounce around on you while walking/running like other slings.

I use a specter gear 2 point. I like it.

I like the Husky Amentum sling slightly better then the VCAS, but I run both on different rifles as their function and manual of arms is the same. I do have a MS3 on one rifle but I'm not a fan, the strap is way too thin and I find it tries to do everything well but falls short, sort of like an F-35.

To run a two point sling properly, you want the rear attachment on the OUTSIDE of your strong hand on the buttstock and the front attachment either in front of your front hand so it is an extra connection point, or behind your front hand so it does not interfere. Experiment with this. Generally, you do not want to set up your weapon like a sub-gun and attach the sling behind the receiver. This is unwieldy, awkward, and leads to tricky weak-side transitions while often getting caught up in your trigger hand.

Here's a pic of a Husky on my HK:
