Any recommendation for a 5/8-24 thread muzzle brake? I would like to have the shortest if possible.

+1 on the AAC NSM(non-suppressor mounting) brake. I have one from a previous build. I wrote a little thread on it here.
The brake itself is a little over an inch, but remember a portion of that is overlapping with the barrel threading. Once cranked on with a crush washer, it only added about 5/8" to my rifle. If you want to go even shorter use shims and rockset from AAC, it'll probably barely extend a 1/2" off the crown of your barrel.
Oh, and works surprisingly well for being such a short single stage brake.RLTW
