    Mini14 sight in today

Finally got a chance to dial in my 581 series Mini today. Has a 3x9 cheap scope that came with it. Once I got it dialed in I got a nice 20 round grouping with only two flyers.

I know people crap all over the mini's accuracy and I've not shot an AR or any other .223/5.56 platform but seems plenty accurate to me if I can hit a small plate size 18 out of 20 times at 100 yards. It's a ranch rifle. It'll do a coyote nicely in a pinch.

Did have one double fire which was odd. Is that essentially a slam fire? Totally unexpected.

    Anyway, I'm pleased.

Yeah I've found my Mini 14 "accurate enough" for its intended usage.

Good rifles, and good option for people not into the AR look and price tag.

It's usually the trigger not catching on the sear. A new gun might double until it gets a few shots run through it. Clean the and lube the gun. Once you have 30 rounds or so through the gun it should not ever double. If it does, it has to go back for repair.

A slam fire is when the inertia of the firing pin is enough to fire a cartridge that is chambering, without pulling the trigger.

        Slam fire - not

I think it would be difficult to actually have a slam fire in a Mini as the firing pin is blocked at the instant the usual SF occures.

The tail stops forward movement until the bolt fully engages.

My specific point is the SF is an uninterrupted FP movement forward with the bolt (read AR) whereas in the mini momentum is stopped by the timing of the "tail".

Not sure what could cause the unwanted double tap but someone with real experience may shed some light here for us all to learn.

Good Mini-14 accuracy to me is 2-3" groups at 100 yds.

If people expect sub-MOA consistently, they're smoking crack. Im sure some may shoot a sub-MOA group with precision reloads or a factory match ammo the rifle/barrel really likes, if your goal is accuracy/precision, go with a different platform.

If/when I get one, I will be happy with 2" groups.
