Savage Model 116FLSS for a lefty, thoughts?

    Evening all...

over the years my right eye has gone to pot so for the past couple of years I have been shooting my right handed guns left handed and enough is enough of that.

So I am out looking sell or trade off my current rifles for a solid, hump it all over the west in any weather and any terrain, not going to baby it, take any North American game work horse of a rifle.

Been looking around a bit and I'm starting to like the Savage Model 116FLSS http://www.savagearms.com/116flss.htm.

I have a few Savage pieces from way way back but I know very little about their current guns when it comes to quality, shootability and their support and rep in general.

I know I like the accutrigger, I played with a display at a shop the other day and thought it was pretty sharp.

So I'm looking for any and all suggestions / comments / endorsements / warring i can get on this rifle. Also open to other suggestions make and model wise and God forgive me for opening this can of worms, but any suggestions on caliber...I am thinking 30-06.

As for use, I hunt pig and deer and am interested in getting into elk. I also enjoy shooting at the range for the fun of it and am also looking to purchase a reloading setup if that sways anyones caliber suggestions.

    Thanks in advance all.

    Pete

I have two Savage centerfires and couldn't be happier with them. It's kind of like owning an AR as you can swap parts around to make anything that you want.

I have the synthetic stock on a 11GL and the forearm is soft so I wouldn't shoot it with a tight sling as you'll flex it pretty easily. Mine will be changed over to a Choate varmint stock and converted to 22.250 once I find the parts that I lost in my storage unit.

Now days for out of the box accuracy everyone compares guns to Savages. I don't know anything about warranty support as I've never had a problem with them. But, my oldest Savage is only 25 years old, so who knows?

I have a Tikka T3 and I like it alot, the stock is nice and stiff with a very smooth action. It has an accuracy guarantee as well. Oh my Tikka is a T3 lite SS in .308 LH. I just wish Beretta would import the 6.5x55 Swede model in left hand... Oh well.
