Is there any actual evidence of a gun suffering a catastrophic failure as the result of firing 556 im a 223 chamber or 308 in a 762 chamber? It seems like if it were really a pressing issue there would be huge liability involved in manufacturing 223/762 chambers considering how easily one could inadvertently chamber the "wrong" ammo. I'm quite sure I've seen a box of ammo marked "223/556". How would you know what you've got? Also, I've purchased black hills reman ammo that was loaded in Lake City (military, no?) brass and marketed as 223 and undoubtedly also purchased and shot by people who used it in a .223 chamber without thinking twice.
I just find it hard to believe that anyone would manufacture something that could so easily be made to inadvertently harm the user, or am I way off base?
