AK-47 Parts Kit - Need advice please!

I would suggest a lot of reading on other forums and watching youtube videos on how to build an AK. Look at AKfiles and Weaponsguild. It takes tools and some ability to do it. Riveting, spot welding, heat treating. That said I built my own tooling but I had welders, press, drill press etc.. already. I have built 7 AK 74s so far, all 80 % receivers, all Bulgarian matching number kits, all looked new. Bought from Arms of America, Rguns and Classic firearms. Good Luck!Comment

Something to think about is that if your end goal is purely to OWN an AK, then it will be cheaper in the long run to just purchase a completed rifle.Could you guys recommend a really good AK-47 parts kit, there are a few sites that have them but I don't know which one to purchase from. I also don't know which kits are good, for example Atlantic is offering a Polish kit for $300 I just want to get a kit before they dry up again or for good. I will also need a barrel.
Any advice would be very appreciated!
If your end goal is to be able to say your built it yourself, then go ahead and build from a parts kit.
That $300 Polish kit is already demilled, but you will need to add at least $100 for a barrel.
Then, you will need to populate the barrel.
If you had to pay someone else to do that, figure on $80 or more.
Then you can either buy a Nodak receiver for $85 plus FFL transfer, or bend a $30 flat.
Then there is another $70 or so in hardware and compliance parts.
There is about $1000 in specialized tooling or you can go to a build party or find someone who has all the tools to assist you in completing the assembly.
Figure on $100 to $400 to have someone else help finish it depending on what type of kit you start with.Randall Rausch

Thanks for all the great posts guys.
Is there anyone who specializes in putting these AK's together with the kits?Comment

Yeah Randall, the guy that posted previous to yours! Great guy to deal with! He's built several different types of rifles for me.Comment

Agree with Randall. You will need to invest upward of $2,000 in equipment (not including the gun) to build, unless you are able to scrounge from friends who have a press, blast cabinet, park tank, spot welder, jigs, etc. If you build, you do it because you enjoy the hobby.Comment

Another idea is to just convert a Saiga sporter.Comment
