BCG Not Locking Open

What would cause this? After my magazine was empty I would have to pull back my charging handle to open my BCG and verify my weapon was clear. Also, I was working on testing some reloads but it seemed to be pretty consistent. I started my load at 2.200" (223) and started at 25.0 grains of CFE-223 powder and worked my way up to 26.9 and it seemed to do it pretty consistently throughout all the loads. Any ideas?

If you pull the charge handle back with an empty mag, what happens?

It would have to be a bolt release/spring/detent issue I would assume?

I'd say your bcg isn't making it all the way back past the bolt catch. That is, if your bolt catch is in working order.

I think your load is strong enough to get the bcg to strip rounds out of the magazine, but not hot enough

Question 1 - is it piston driven?

Question 2 - is your bolt catch freely moving

Question 3 - Does it do it with factory loads

Question 4 - Have you cleaned it recently

Lastly cause this is a comment - if its a gas system ensure your rings are offset...

Its gas driven, I kind of suspected the loads were too light as the weapon has never done this before today but just wanted to verify.

Try a few rounds of some good comercial or Nato grade ammo and see if your BCG will lock open then. Otherwise it may be time to change out the mag. If so I'd get a standard metal version. I've had issues with the Mag-Puls so for testing stay away from plastic mags.

Mine doesn't lock open either. I had a sh*tty lpk and the bolt catch doesn't work right. I should fix that someday..

What kind of LPK?

X3 I shoot only Herters and Tula through my Adams Arms upper and it never locks back. I know its the ammo because I broke it in with decent ammo and the bolt caught every time.

Is it a carbine or rifle configuration? If it is a carbine, check the buffer spring. Twice I have seen rifle springs used in a carbine (collapsible) stock. A rifle spring will not compress far enough for the BCG to engage the bolt hold open catch. Just a wild guess...
