best quality ak parts kit?

prior to posting this question, ive looked online at several threads from various sites regarding this question.
im not looking for a safe queen of any sort, i shoot all my firearms, doesn't matter their history..
im interested in an East German parts kit, but have only found them been sold in separate new parts and maybe it will be more that what a complete parts kit could go for.
are Bulgarian parts kit decent?
im looking to spend up to 500$ (on ak parts kit)
i already have a Nodakspud Receiver ready...

Bulgarian kit probably is an AK-74. Which receiver do you have? Finding an East German might be hard now. I got a kit from Apex back in 2010 when they had a a few in stock, but I havent seen them since. If you have NDS1 you could go with any Euro AKM platform minus the Yugo models. Also if you dont have the tooling to install a virgin barrel, it will be semi-challenging as the days of original barrels are gone. One option you might want to look at is getting a Saiga in sporter and doing conversion(pistol grip,922r parts.) Its a hell of alot less labor intensive and doesnt require a few thousand dollars in tooling.

Bulgy kits are nice. Comperable to Russian.
Romanian and Egyptian tend to be a bit rough compared to most others but function as well as anything else

In todays market for that price you are looking at a Romy G (Romanian) kit with an original barrel.

Anything else in the $500 range will not have an original barrel except maybe a Hungarian AMD-65 .

Bulgarian kits are pretty much Russian. Some are actual Russian that were kept in Bulgaria for a period exceeding 5 years at which point by default are termed "Bulgarian."

But they actually used Russian tooling to make their rifles. No ambiguity at all.

Bulgarian kits are quality. However, having said that, an AK is an AK is an AK. Do your due diligence and you'll be happy. Don't listen to detractors and brand snobs...make up your own mind after evaluating the data provided you.

I have an all original stamped matching, good condition, as issued and used, Polish AKM underfolder kit for $350 + shipping. (SPF)

I have a nice 1970 Soviet Izhevsk AKM kit with matching bolt and carrier, top cover and recoil spring rod, and gas tube for $400 + shipping. It does not have the front trunnion, but I know where there is a nice one correct 1970 Izhevsk one for $200 that I plan to purchase and use if I end up keeping and building this kit.


I have 2 genuine Euro AKM barrel options available for sale with either of these kits:
#1 - a Polish AKM front half - trunnion, barrel, front and rear sights, gas block, and handguard retainer for $350... sell the trunnion and barrel parts and you will have a beautiful Polish barrel for around $200.
#2 - a Romanian AKM barrel assembly for $260. It has both sights, gas block, and handguard retainer. Sell those parts and again you have a genuine Comblock AKM barrel for around $200.

Both barrel setups are for sale with the above mentioned kits only, they are not for sale by themselves.

It really depends on what receiver you bought and go from there. Bulgarian ak74 parts kits are common now. I'd just hold on to the receiver until something special pops up. The price for a romanian kit is almost the same as a complete rifle.

I'll assume when you are saying bulgarian, you are talking about the milled reciever kits. If that is the case then that is a whole nother can of worms, so if you are looking to bend your own flat stay away from those kits.

I've built Romanian, Yugoslavian, Chinese, Russian, Egyptian, Hungarian and a Bulgarian on stamped receivers. Don't have any milled ones.

All are great shooters and I was never worried about appearance. Some wood came in looking rough but I never minded.

If I had a bunch of money to spend on an AK kit I would buy one of those Virgin M85 Yugo kits.
