So I had been searching for an M1a for a while and especially before the 31st. Stores didn't seem to have them in stock and I finally purchased a Standard in Black Synthetic for about $1660. I would have preferably wanted a Loaded, but I didn't see any other rifles around. I did notice that companies like Bud's had them for significantly cheaper, but they are all out of stock. I guess I'm having slight buyer's remorse. Is it a Springfield thing? I had to search high and low for my Springfield 1911.

Why are Springfield M1as so hard to come by in California and why are they so pricey?

They don't stay on shelves long. Standards are pretty dam good rifles you won't be disappointed. Irons or optics?Originally posted by KwikvetteOPeR4t3Rz w3aR dem h4tz br4h!Originally posted by ddindetroitI think you mean ProStaff on your ad and not Prostate- the male secretary organ that causes urinary obstruction in old age and make chymotrypsin to lyse seminal clots.
These are nice scopes - ProStaff that is; not the Prostate.

My semi-educated opinion is that they are high quality firearms and currently due to limited production are in short supply.
I have very particular tastes and would rather wait and get exactly what I want. Every firearm in my collection speaks to this point.
You got a great rifle for a really good price. If its not the specific model you wanted, well, get the one you want.

Amazing rifles! Accurate and scary reliable. But standby, inevitably some CGN expert will postulate they are made in a chi-com sweat shop or the only model worth buying is the $4000 Fulton Armory build...
If you pick one up, you won't ever regret it. They put most of the nasty plastic/aluminum black rifles to shame and will monopolize a good deal of your rifle shooting.Comment

I saw a used Socom16 for $3000.00 the other day.Comment

I have always been a fan of Springfield and have always wanted an M14-type rifle. I probably won't see much benefit from the Loaded. I guess the prices seem to be all over the place. Online retailers price even the California variants competitively, but do not have it in stock. I can't believe a used SOCOM would go for more than $3000! How does allocation work for these guns? I guess I'm new to how this works. You can't put down money until there is a guaranteed gun coming into a LGS. It took me a year just to find my Springfield 1911.Comment

So I noticed that the ones in stock are the non-CA models, which should only differ by not having the muzzle break. Do they install them and ship them if you ask them? That has been the part that has confused me for a while.Comment

For sure it's on my list of must have 308's. After I get a DS Arms FAL and build up my AR-308 variant.
As for getting one, just have to look around OP. Last time I was at banes and davis's in alhambra, they had a couple there. But if you can find a retailer like grabagun or someone that can FFL from out of state to CA , definitely go that route, just be sure you use an FFL with nominal fees.Be the change that you wish to see in the world.Mahatma Gandhi
