    precision barrel

    hi all.
what is/ or is there any difference between a bull barrel and a regular stainless steel barrel as far as accuracy and durability? I am actually planning to build a precision rifle. any recommendation which upper/barrel is great? thank you.

      Do that^^^

But yes there is a big difference. Think of it this way, place a ruler on the edge of the table to flip it to make it twang. Thats what a barrel does when fired. A heavy barrel will have more spine and not bend as much.

Google and research barrel rigidity, harmonics, and expansion.

Been very happy with my 20" Krieger in DCM contour for service rifle. With good handloads t is capable of sub 1/2 MOA.

            Man talk about retarded answers...
What a bull barrel does is maintain a more rigid barrel as the barrel heats up after shooting,
            which should improve you accuracy,
also typically BB are generally better quality barrels in general

Well it sounds like you already have it figured out. Why did you even bother asking us then?

                Put down the pipe
                I'm not the op
A good BB will allow you to shoot consistently
                at the range,
normally as the barrel heats up it starts to warp
                and your POI changes,
with a BB your Point Of Impact will be more consistent

You need to start the the best blank you can, doesn't matter if it heavy profile like a BB or lighter profile. The barrel maker has some tricks to them consistent . Chamber also makes a difference.

You don't need the "finest blank ever." A bunch of great shooters I know swear that they don't see a difference between a Kreiger, Wilson, Douglas, Pac-Nor, Shillen, or Green Mountain. Some last longer than others, but what you NEED is a good chambering job.

Yea it's more about the person who made your barrel than who they got it from. It's the work that's out into it that really counts and shows on paper.

Bench Rifle: Bull barrel. Not too good with brands here but I'm sure others will chip in.

Service Rifle: Noveske. Highly durable and proven accuracy.

If you are using your rifle to only shoot off a bench, using a bi pod or sand bag, there is no reason not to get a heavy bull barrel.

Bull barrels are stiffer and flex much less during shooting then lighter barrels. They also generally don't lose too much accuracy when they heat up, and take longer to heat up. Lastly, the weight of the heavy barrel makes it easier to hold the crosshairs still and ultimately helps you shoot better.

Even if your planning on hunting with the gun with a good sling a bull barrel is not that big of a deal.
